What we offer

At Connect and Communicate we meet the individual and his/ her family at their level and at their pace. The focus is not on teaching skills based on age but supporting development from the ground-up and from inside-out. We begin with what the individual can do and scaffold the next steps through our interactions. In this way we help to consolidate what they already have and build the foundation for them to advance further. In so doing we not only facilitate the meaningful development of skills, but well connected and confident individuals.

The Speech Therapist will advise you on best options for your child. We believe in testing individuals at their best. Thus we prefer to administer a standardized battery of tests only once we have established a relationship with the individual.

Beyond formal standardized testing, at Connect and Communicate we believe in Dynamic Assessment . This is a highly interactive, process-oriented, approach to understanding what a child can do and his learning potential. Parents and caregivers may be involved in the assessment where appropriate. Dynamic Assessment  is interested in the tactics and thinking of the individual. This is fluid and hence dynamic assessment is an ongoing part of the intervention.

Therapy is usually at the centre. We provide :

  • 1:1 individual intervention / Speech Therapy
  • Group work (2-4 maximum in a group)

Whether intervention is individual or in groups, is determined by the needs and readiness of the child. The speech therapist may recommend individual sessions first, and when ready a dyad (two students) followed by slightly larger groups. Our groups are never more than 4 students and are tightly fit for ability and tailored to the needs of the individual.

Frequency of intervention depends on the needs of the individual and family. Sessions are typically once weekly for an hour. We cannot enable development in just one hour once a week. Parents and caregivers are integral to this process. We work intimately with caregivers and relevant others to understand the individual and hence facilitate development.

We also offer home-based and school-based support to accelerate progress and facilitate carryover. Please refer to our specialist service "DIR Social Coach" for more information.
