Workshop Program
Why is it many children struggle to organize and stay organized around emotions? They may be ‘passive’ or ‘highly strung and easily agitated’. They may have feeling words but not be connected to the feeling. They act out their feelings through ‘behaviours’ instead.
Different children process and internalize emotions (affect) differently. Some struggle to organize emotions, based on their individual sensory processing profiles. Hence, children can be distractible and easily disregulated. Both attention and emotional control become a struggle. When children perceive interactions as confusing or threatening, they will not be available for learning. They cannot problem solve and adapt. They become overwhelmed and resort to inappropriate behaviours.
Learn how to help your child understand and manage emotions, so they can stay focused, participate fully and problem solve appropriately.
In this 3-hour talk, we will:
- Step outside ‘labels’ and understand individual processing differences. Understand that feelings come from bodily perceptions.
- Respect your child’s individual differences and how they interpret and regulate ‘affect’/ emotions.
- Learn to 'Talk' to kids about what they are feeling, without words
- Help them manage/ organize emotions so they can problem solve and adapt, using visual tools and scaling
- Match your affect to your child so you can support regulation, sustain engagement, and expand ideas.
